MOTHER
NATURE'S POND CLARIFIER
Barley-Based
Natural Enzyme
BARLEY-BASED
ENZYME
Mother Nature's Pond Clarifier is a natural, barley-based
enzyme designed for use in fish ponds, lakes and lagoons
where organic odors and organic accumulations are a problem.
Since it takes barley straw 4 to 6 weeks to become active,
we recommend using Mother Nature's Pond Clarifier with
the straw to clear your pond of present clarity problems.
It contains naturally occurring bacteria, which have been
selected and produced for their ability to degrade organic
matter and reduce ammonia accumulations through a natural
oxidative process. Mother Nature's Pond Clarifier digests
these organics naturally and safely. When added to the
pond, it creates a biological chain reaction by producing
greater and greater quantities of natural bacteria and
enzymes.
Mother Natures
Pond Clarifier works in fresh or salt water. It is safe
and beneficial for fish and plants. Mixing the enzyme
in warm water to let it reactivate for a couple of hours
before pouring it into the pond will speed up the process.
HOW MUCH TO APPLY:
Use ¼ cup
(1 oz) per 1,000 gallons of water. With very cloudy or
green water, the dosage may be safely doubled or tripled
for better quicker results. Once the pond is clear, the
amount of enzyme required may be reduced to half the recommended
amount. (Smaller ponds, 50 to 100 gallons, will require
twice the amount recommended on the initial treatment.)
You may add ¼
cup of baking soda per 1000 gallons of water on the initial
application along with the enzyme as a buffer. Baking soda
also helps stabilize ph and can be applied to the pond on
a regular basis.
HOW
TO APPLY:
The enzyme should be re-activated much like yeast is re-activated
before making bread. The proper amount of culture should be
placed in a container with some warm water,* stirred occasionally
and allowed to grow and reproduce for about two hours before
application. This process will dramatically increase the number
of viable microorganisms present before they are applied to
the pond.
*It is essential to
use only water, which does not contain chlorine or other chemicals
for this.
WHAT IT DOES:
Enzymes out-compete algae for food. It deprives algae of its
food source so it can't reproduce and survive, and the water
becomes clear. The algae then starve, die and are in turn
consumed by the same beneficial microorganisms. The result
is that the water becomes clear and healthier for fish. Any
filter will operate more efficiently and waste products are
eliminated.
Mother Nature's Pond
Clarifier has a shelf life of 2 to 4 years. It should be kept
in a cool place (refrigeration will prolong its potency).
The optimum ph for
organic biodegradation is between 6.5 and 8.5. Extremely acidic
conditions (approaching ph 5) can prove fatal for the system.
Adequate oxygen levels
are very important
critical in fact for the health of
the nitrifying colony as well as for the fish. Without a continual
flow of oxygen saturated water over them, the colony will
begin to deteriorate within a few hours. As this happens,
ammonia and nitrite levels begin to climb. With enough oxygen,
ponds will become cleaner and healthier for fish much more
rapidly.
Warm water has less
ability to retain oxygen than cold water. If there are a lot
of submerged plants or algae present, they will produce oxygen
when the sun is out, but the process reverses at night and
they will actually consume it. Oxygen can be added to a system
by using a fountain or waterfall. Air can be pumped directly
to the bottom of the water with an air pump. It is essential
to keep any aeration systems operating at night, as this is
when the problems of oxygen depletion are most likely to occur.
